RT1720是用于完成过压保护和过流保护的集成电路，可对一个电路的输入电压和电流进行实时的监测并与可以调节的过压、过流保护阈值进行比较，仅在它认为安全时才会驱动外接的N-MOSFET使其贯通。它可以承受的输入电压范围很宽泛，可用于存在大范围电压、电流冲击的高压应用系统如汽车、电信设备和工业应用中。<BR>在过压事件发生时，RT1720可快速降低它对外部MOSFET的驱动信号幅度使其输出电压稳定在由外部反馈电阻所设定的电压水准上。当过流事件发生时，负载消耗了过大的电流，RT1720也会同样降低对MOSFET栅极的驱动使输出电流稳定在设定的水准上，这个水准是由外部电流检测电阻设定的。在这两种情形之下，输出电压和电流的调节都是以线性方式进行的，由MOSFET构成的负载开关将会受到热量冲击。为了应对这个问题，一个外部可调的定时器将对MOSFET承受压力的时间进行限制，它会在一定的时间后发出故障信号，最后会将MOSFET关闭以使之得到保护。此后，RT1720将周期性地进行重启操作以测试故障是否已被清除。有了定时器的保护，MOSFET就可以容许其负载电路在出现电压冲击和电流冲击时仍能暂时保持正常的工作状态，这种状况在汽车的抛负载效应和碟机马达启停过程中是很容易出现的。<BR>RT1720具有开漏的故障输出信号和power good输出信号，其使能控制端也可以被当作阈值比较器来使用。<br>RT1720的封装是MSOP-10。
