RT8488 是6通道 LED 驱动器，它将经过仔细匹配的电流送入每一串 LED 中。由于使用外挂的电流源，每串 LED 的数量限制仅取决于电流源的能力和 V<sub>IN</sub>/V<sub>OUT</sub> 条件。它的电流模式 Boost 控制器以最高可调至 1MHz 的频率工作，其可工作电压范围为 7V~28V ，它的开关驱动器具有可以驱动工业级高功率 MOSFET 的能力。<br>其 PWM 控制回路的工作目标是将 LED 串底端的最低电压调节至 0.7V 以适应各 LED 串之间的电压误差。RT8488 在工作期间自动对各 LED 串的故障如开路、断路等问题进行检测并将相应通道屏蔽以避免 V<sub>OUT</sub> 升高至过压的状态。<br>各通道的 LED 电流可以分别通过一只电阻很容易地进行调节。它支持三种简单易用的调光方法：1，通过一个外来电压进行线性的模拟调节；2，真数字式控制的 PWM 调光方法对 LED 电流进行占空比调节；3，使用内置的带限幅功能放大器和低通滤波器将 PWM 信号转化为模拟信号进行调光，这可消除 PWM 调光方式所带来的噪声。<br>它还包括了可调的输出过电压保护、PWM 开关电流限制和过热关机保护等功能。
