RT1720是用於完成過壓保護和過流保護的積體電路，可對一個電路的輸入電壓和電流進行即時的監測並與可以調節的過壓、過流保護閾值進行比較，僅在它認為安全時才會驅動外接的N-MOSFET使其貫通。它可以承受的輸入電壓範圍很寬泛，可用於存在大範圍電壓、電流衝擊的高壓應用系統如汽車、電信設備和工業應用中。<BR>在過壓事件發生時，RT1720可快速降低它對外部MOSFET的驅動信號幅度使其輸出電壓穩定在由外部回饋電阻所設定的電壓水準上。當過流事件發生時，負載消耗了過大的電流，RT1720也會同樣降低對MOSFET柵極的驅動使輸出電流穩定在設定的水準上，這個水準是由外部電流檢測電阻設定的。在這兩種情形之下，輸出電壓和電流的調節都是以線性方式進行的，由MOSFET構成的負載開關將會受到熱量衝擊。為了應對這個問題，一個外部可調的計時器將對MOSFET承受壓力的時間進行限制，它會在一定的時間後發出故障信號，最後會將MOSFET關閉以使之得到保護。此後，RT1720將週期性地進行重啟操作以測試故障是否已被清除。有了計時器的保護，MOSFET就可以容許其負載電路在出現電壓衝擊和電流衝擊時仍能暫時保持正常的工作狀態，這種狀況在汽車的拋負載效應和碟機馬達啟停過程中是很容易出現的。<BR>RT1720具有開漏的故障輸出信號和power good輸出信號，其使能控制端也可以被當作閾值比較器來使用。<br>RT1720的封裝是MSOP-10。
