RT9718 是避免低壓系統受到異常高壓衝擊的積體電路，最高可以耐受 30V 電壓。它通過監視輸入電壓、電池電壓和充電電流並確保所有參數都在正常工作範圍內來確保安全。當輸入電壓超過預設 OVP 閾值時，它可在 1μs 內斷開 MOSFET ，以便在任何危害發生前就將電源供應斷開。它可在沒有電池存在的情況下提供電壓輸出。<Br>流過功率 MOSFET 的電流是受限的，目的是避免以過大的電流對電池進行充電，電流限制參數可通過 ILIM 和 GND 之間的電族進行設定。OCP 功能的實施電路中包含了一個4位的計數器，當過流事件被計數到16次時，MOSFET 功率開關被徹底關斷，僅在重新上電以後才能恢復。<Br>RT9718 還同時對電池電壓進行檢測，一旦電池電壓超過 4.35V 並持續 180μs，MOSFET 功率開關就會被切斷，這樣的電池過電壓連續發生 16 次以後，MOSFET 功率開關就會被內部邏輯電路永久性地關閉。
