USB-C PD 3.1 EPR application is advancing towards 48V input and power levels beyond 240W. As system voltage rises, fault conditions such as short circuits, overvoltage or overheating can impose significantly higher energy stress, making transient protection, reverse current blocking and hot swap inrush control increasingly critical. Richtek’s RT1988 ideal diode is designed for these high-power applications, strengthening power path protection with the following features:
High power capability
Supporting up to 53V and 8A with around 10% voltage margin for 48 V input variation, the RT1988 also integrates adjustable overvoltage protection for greater design flexibility.
Integrated TVS for enhanced reliability
An integrated transient voltage suppressor TVS provides overvoltage suppression, helping to mitigate voltage spikes and protect the VBUS rail from abnormal energy events.
Designed for multi-port high power systems
Suitable for high power USB applications including desktop systems, docking stations, monitors and power adapters. The RT1988 supports adjustable soft-start, reverse current blocking and comprehensive protection features to meet diverse system requirements.
